From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the party reach areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
