Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
